Vista Alegre Rainhas de Portugal Vase – Queen D. Estefânia

A porcelain cachepot vase from the Rainhas de Portugal collection by Vista Alegre, dedicated to Queen D. Estefânia, Queen consort of Portugal from 1858 until her early death in 1861, remembered for her compassion and her dedication to public health and education. Designed by Hélia Aluai, the piece renders her story through red and gold filigree-inspired decoration on fine white porcelain.

The Rainhas de Portugal collection pays homage to six queens from Portugal's history: Inês de Castro, Rainha Santa Isabel, D. Maria II, D. Amélia, D. Estefânia and D. Leonor. Complex figures portrayed with great sensitivity by designer Hélia Aluai, inspired by filigree, a typically Portuguese ornamental technique. The colours, red and gold, express the passion of these women and the cultural richness they evoke.
